Yes, rebooting your Mac absolutely can fix performance issues like slow internet connection and other network-related problems. If a wireless connection is blazing fast on any other device but yours, reboot your Mac and rejoin the network. Click the Apple logo on the menu bar and select Restart.
There are also some cases where your wireless router could be having a problem and just needs a good reboot. In these scenarios, the router may produce slower than expected download speeds, or the downloads may not progress at all.
Wifi Fast Download Slow Mac
The download speed shows how quickly your device is downloading data from the Internet. On the contrary, the upload speed indicates the speed at which your device can upload data to the Internet. Both types are usually measured in Mbps (one megabit per second), which is equivalent to 1,000 Kbps. The higher the rating, the faster your Internet is.
Also, when getting slow download and upload speeds parameters, make sure to check the hardware. Using a wrong router or the cable which is insufficient for the bandwidth (for example, a 100 Mbps Ethernet cable while you have a 500 Mbps connection) may involuntarily slow down your Internet.
To boost the download speed when performing direct downloads (via URL), you can try splitting the download into a number of threads. Fast downloading is ensured by multiple simultaneous connections (up to twenty) retrieving the same file split into numerous data packets. However, sometimes multithreading may potentially make things slower, say when the server is limiting the download speed for each connection or if the server is single-threaded. In this case, individual wait time for each thread becomes longer, thus using more threads makes the download slower than using fewer threads. To accelerate the speed of torrent downloading, try playing with Folx settings:
Before we begin, if you think your slow internet or download speed is a result of your device and not your internet connection, check out our guides to speeding up your PC, optimizing your Mac, or getting your Android or iPhone to run faster. Now let's learn how to increase your internet speed.
An internet signal map of your home will let you know where to expect slow download speeds or even connection drops, so make sure to put your router in a place in your home that lets you optimize the internet speed for all your connected devices.
Restart your computerTurning off your computer and restarting it can help fix any electrical issues with your device or tasks that are stuck are now slowing down your download speeds.
Your business may suffer from a poor Internet connection if your Internet service provider has technical difficulties. But before you report the problem to your provider, you should check if your Mac computer is downloading or uploading data in the background. Some Mac applications may hog your network bandwidth, resulting to slower connection speeds. Checking the current upload and download speeds in your Mac will help you determine if background applications are to blame for a slow Internet connection, even if you have no visible windows open.
You can manage how much bandwidth your internet uses to run the Dropbox desktop app in your desktop app preferences. This can help you prioritize how fast or slow the Dropbox desktop app runs, relative to other applications on your computer.
When you add or change files in the Dropbox desktop app, your changes are reflected everywhere you access your files in Dropbox. Your upload rate affects how fast this happens. When you add or change files on dropbox.com or anywhere else you access your files in Dropbox, those changes are reflected in the Dropbox desktop app. Your download rate affects how fast this happens.

It could also be that a bug in your current software has been resolved in a newer update. Perhaps Apple discovered why iTunes movie downloads were slow for some users. They would release a fix to this issue in the next update.
We hope those tips fixed any problems you were having with slow iTunes or App Store downloads on your iPhone or Mac. If all went well, your iTunes movies should be downloading quicker than ever. Let us know your story in the comments!
I recently had this problem and you made me realise that I added openDNS to my router. iPhone was originally using my ISP DNA whilst PC was set to openDNS. Changing it my router made the iPhone use openDNS and the app store crawled when downloading. Removed the openDNS from my router and everything is back to normal and fast again. Thanks for the information!
I am having the same problems for the last month and a half with iTunes and it is depressing when you have a 25M download speed. The suggestion that it is cause by Google DNS Servers seems a bit odd as I am having extreemly slow speeds and am not using the Google DNS servers or anyones other those of my ISP (Rogers). I dont know if others have noticed it also but Microsoft Updates have also slowed to a crawl if you watch them download as they install.
I found solution for very slow wifi speed for my new inspiron 3000 on reddit. I still had the problem after I uninstalled Smartbyte, so this saved me from returning the product. The download speed increased 7 times. Here is the solution:
After 4 hrs of remote service by a Dell technician yesterday, the solution was to ship back my new computer. I was waiting to receive a box for shipping, until i selected the correct keywords 'slow download fast upload', and after a few irrelevant (even pompous messages about removing 'smart byte') I found found this one, Once I found my router's password and navigated deep into the Verizon router controls - BANG - worked
Wow! Many thanks for this! My download speed was consistently less than 2Mbps via wifi since i bought laptop last month (but 60Mbps via ethernet). Immediately after making this change, my speed went up to 20Mbps. not blazing, but order of magnitude improvement.
Different online use cases require different internet speeds and bandwidths. Generally speaking, web browsing or email requires only 5 to 10 Mbps (Megabits per second). Streaming, online gaming, and downloads require faster internet speeds, depending on the type of streaming and the number of devices connected on the same network.
Many things can contribute to slow download speed and figuring out the underlying problem to your slow connection can sometimes be tricky. While it may be a simple fix like checking your internet speed or restarting your computer, some solutions are more complex.
According to the Broadband Speed Guide from the Federal Communication Commission (FCC), download speeds of at least 25 Mbps are considered good download speeds. But how can you increase download speed if yours is slow?
The more people and devices you have connected to your internet, the slower the connection can be. When downloading, try disconnecting any other devices, like smart TVs, iPads, and phones for the time being. This may increase your internet and download speed significantly.
Similarly, you should disable any applications on your device when downloading. The applications you have running on your computer can take up a good chunk of your bandwidth, which can contribute to slower speeds. For example, video streaming services like Netflix use a heavy amount of bandwidth. Temporarily disable the apps and see if that helps.
The modem you have is typically provided by your service provider. Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your modem. If your download speed has been significantly slow and you saw no change in speed after restarting, it may be time for a new modem.
Viruses on your device can cause a multitude of issues. These viruses can run in the background, using your internet and increasing your bandwidth usage, which results in slow download speed. To prevent this, consider installing antivirus software to protect yourself from viruses, malware, and other online threats.
Cache is what stores your internet data to help website browsers and apps load faster. Sometimes your browser cache will become full and can cause download speeds to run slower. While you may not want to clear your cache completely, you can choose what data to clear. You can clear your browsing history, computer cookies, and cached images and files.
If you use a VPN, you end up trading network performance for privacy. Even top-notch VPN service providers impact your internet speed. Try switching off your VPN and check if that makes Chrome perform downloads faster.
Chrome extensions can create conflicts that result in slow file downloads. Try disabling them. To do that, select the Extensions icon to the top-right of the Chrome window and select Manage Extensions. Follow by turning off the switches next to each active extension.
As most of us are used to living a fast-paced life and getting various tasks done as efficiently as possible, a slow download can be very frustrating. The cause of it can be a slow internet connection, and no one has patience for that anymore.
You can run a speed test to check your network's download and upload speed. There are plenty of free speed test websites. One of the most popular ones is speedtest.net. If you choose to use this website, just click on the "Go" button. It will run speed diagnostics of your Download and upload speed. You will see your internet provider displayed at the bottom as well. You can also go to fast.com, which will show you an overall internet speed.
If you do not know whether your internet speed is slow or the website you are trying to download a file is taking a long time load due to other issues, you can run network diagnostics to check if there is a problem with your internet connection. 2ff7e9595c
